One More January Ride...

It was sunny, and not too cold. Just around the freezing mark. My new job starts on Monday, so I figured I wouldn't have too many days to bike until it gets warmer, and the sun sets later. I layered up and headed out for an ambitious 25+ mile ride. I also wanted to test out a route I put together for a friend of mine who is in training for the Lake Placid Ironman this summer. It's been a while since I have done a lot of serious, consistent riding and the numbers show it. I only managed to average 14 mph and my legs were rubbery when I got back. The winter clothing work well, though my fingers were cold in the beginning and my toes got colt in the end. Much like an average day of skiing... I miss skiing...

Auto Body Shop Ride

Today was a good test for the new winter clothing (gloves and shoe covers). I needed to pick up my wife's car at Sansossio's Auto Body Shop up in Natick, MA so it was a good way to fit a ride in. It was cold, a bit windy, but a good ride none-the-less.

First Ride of the Year...

The forcast called for sunny and mid 40° weather. As I am in between contract ("on the bench" in consultant speak) I decided to take advantage. The only thing missing from the forcast was the wind. It was a bit windy, but nothing unbearable. I was dressed just about right. I had my new winter riding gloves and shoe coveres my wife got for me for Christmas, and I had my winter bike shirt on. I think it is a Pearl Izumi Kodiak. It was just enough. Any colder and I would have needed my shell. It was a short ride, but it felt good just to get out.

2006 in Review

This past year I did a lot of biking. I managed to get out for 55 rides on my road bike totaling 1349 miles. I averages 15.7 m.p.h. for the year. Not bad considering I did this with a full time job and two kids under 5. The highlight of the year was the 3 day ride from High Point, NJ to Cape May, NJ. ~250 miles in three days. Day 1 was grueling with 85 miles and lots of climbs. Day 2 was my first century and also my 38th birthday :-) Day 3 was a short 60 mile ride to the Cape to wrap up the trip. More about this ride at: Martinator.com/bikenj I doubt I'll get close to 1350 miles in 2007, but I'll try ;-) Happy New Year!
